missing daughter tag and how to manually activate it?
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:23:45 AM »
i know we'll soon get the new 1.3 version but could i please be told how to manually activate the "Your Daughter" tag in the save files. i like to keep tabs on who is my daughter and who isn't (just a personal idiocy). Hope it's not too much trouble. ;)
The line between lunacy and genious is very thin.
So far i haven't been able to find it.

...

Fix'd.
Please treat me well even though I don't deserve it.

The last time I tried to change a girl in the save file, it made the save unloadable, but theoretically if you wanted to edit a girl in there, you could.  As an example, here's what you would need to do in order to add a trait to a girl:

Here is the save entry for Marina:

Code: [Select]
Marina
Marina
A young girl from a faraway land who set off on a quest to train indiginous creatures, but got lost and wound up in Crossgate somehow, an event that seems to be incresingly common these days.

To add the "Your Daughter" trait, I would need to add:

Code: [Select]
Your daughter
0

in the list of traits and increment the trait counter.  The end result would look like this (changes in bold):

Code: [Select]
Marina
Marina
A young girl from a faraway land who set off on a quest to train indiginous creatures, but got lost and wound up in Crossgate somehow, an event that seems to be incresingly common these days.

There may be additional changes you need to make to the save file, but I don't know what they are.
Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse" and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse."

you could also use the editor to create an item that adds the trait.

What George said is probably the easiest way to do it, however... you would have to start a new game for it to load the new item. :(

You shouldn't need to start a new game - the items files are parsed every time you either start the program or load a game, I forget which.  Either way, when you load a game from a fresh start of the program, changes to the items file make it into your game.

O rly?  I know whenever I add a new girl, I need to start a new game to have her show up in game, I guess I assumed that was true for items as well.

You have to start a new game when you add a girl? I didn't think you did.

I've never been able to get my new girls to show up unless I started a completely new game. :(

If you add a new girl to an existing .girls/.girlsx file, then she won't show up in an existing game.  If you add a new .girlsx file, the game should load the new file.  Girl files are tracked in the .gam.mast file, so if the new files aren't showing up there, then the girls in new files definitely are not getting loaded.  I have a vague recollection of testing this maybe a month or two ago, so there might be something in the bug thread about it.
