Agree with aevojoey - hav u looked in bios?
1) if hard-drive still detected by bios (before windows begins u often gotta press F2 or Del to access bios). and u can hear it spin up, but Win doesn't load (OS corruption), it's easy and free to fix with a Linux disk. can at least get data back... really easy
2) if yr hard-drive is not showing up in bios at all, no sign of a hard drive there at all - again can maybe fix... 1st check all cables, maybe check power connector to it too. If still no go, and no sign of it in bios, likely circuit board (PCB) fail. may be cheaply fixable - see vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn2eL4o-6Eo DIY or send it to someone (a PCB fix shouldn't be crazy expensive)...
3) if it is showing in BIOS but won't spin up, or is loudly clicking, it's dead. Crazy expensive to recover, if it can be recovered at all

I've done all I know and most of what my IT friends have suggested. I recovered some stuff, but most of the data is lost forever. Thanks for the advice though
