There is definitely new content added since you last played, and v0.73b is the most stable build in a long time.  That said the game still has a lot further to go in terms of development.

I have a request for the kind folks fixing HHS (the original).  I'm playing on a netbook and the fixed game resolution makes it hard to play.  Specifically on the screen where you assign teachers to classes, I can't see the bottom row of classes, so I can never pick the sex classes when they show up.  I don't know if it's an easy fix or not, but if it is, I'd appreciate the effort.

HHS2 has a similar problem.  Too much screen real estate, but thankfully there's scroll bars.
