Title: WM Die-Hards: Share Your Challenge Modes/'New Game +' Strats
Post by: derpderpfake on June 08, 2018, 07:00:30 PM
So you've figured out that you can print infinite money with the studio (when it doesn't bug out), or that this game is actually a deep public statement about privatized health care by making a fully-staffed hospital pay out millions of dollars in profit a day, or realized that your starter gang can earn you ten grand (or more if you're lucky) in girls and items in a single dungeon dive. You've expanded your brothels to hold one of every unique character in your possession, and then filled your auxiliary buildings with monster girls from the dungeons and randos from the slave market (and deadbeat customers' wives and daughters). Then you turned that little modest house in the 'home' picture into a goddamn Tardis by giving it ten thousand rooms, and mashing every goddamn one of those girls into your own private harem of bed warmers.

So you've won... right?

Well, the purpose of this thread is to share all the ways that you can introduce challenges that can make your next run that much more interesting.I've done a number of things (having been cycling through between playing, creating girls, creating items, and then taking a break, for bloody years now) to add some challenge, and I'm interested to hear what y'all have done to keep it spicy.

If enough people are into this, it might be interesting to add some sort of point value corresponding to the challenge level--but that might be getting ahead of myself.
Some of the challenges I've done (most often I choose several before I begin):...Yeah, I've put more time into this game than I'd like to admit. So what are your challenges? Are there any improvements you can make on the ones I've suggested?
I might throw together a 'theme roulette' for brothels, where you randomly determine your restrictions (so that you cannot choose your next theme based on your current stable of reserves).

.....Yup, you definitely put a lot of thought into this. Makes me wish they can do something like this in the game as a challenge toggle.

Why in hell are you going through my savegame files and publicizing literally ALL of my strategies? This is offensive and disturbing.

All kidding aside (god I hope I'm kidding - that paragraph is EERIE), amazing post.
I've never "formalized" my run-through, but I have used some of these ideas in my games. For sure, 100%, I use Theme Harems all the time. I think it works much better. I've also done The Corrupted Entrepreneur and Self Sufficient to some degree.

My most recent and current favourite is the Egomaniacal Progenitor - Impregnate ALL of the slaves/workers yourself, as many times as possible, and keep your daughters in a special Harem where all they do is practice (no hardcore or beasty stuff obvs), have free time, and get waited on hand-and-foot by all the other slaves. All daughters are freed immediately, given all of their earnings, and can't be sold or fired ever. They also must live like queens. If they start with bad traits they go through the community centre/hospital first. LOTS of micromanaging as you try to impregnate and then transfer out of the house into the harems, restart birth control, and try desperately to make money in the few weeks you have before you start trying to impregnate again in the house. In this game, the house is a shitshow.
If a girl gets pregnant from someone else... abortion.

It's because I know you, Michael. I know all about you.

I have been with you all along, Michael. Hiding in the corner of your eye, just barely out of sight. Have you seen me Michael? When your heart races, and your eyes dart to the side? Have you seen the form that exists before the the world outside your periphery has a chance to fill in? I am that blur that you could not have seen, but swear you glimpsed. I am the uneasy feeling you get when the light goes out. I am the anchor in your heart when you are alone in an unfamiliar place.

I do not touch your computer, Michael. You should know this. The sanctity of your sacred hidden folders remain untouched. Not the games, not the pictures, not the videos. You see, pixels hold no interest to me. Light is an abstract concept to me, Michael, like gravity or radiation; it exists around me, but it is not of my world. No, the images do mean nothing, but your interpretation that fascinates me.

You see, Michael, I sneak into your room while you sleep. I pluck your memories from your breath. They nourish me. They teach me. They have shown me thoughts... cravings... terrors... and hidden desires that I once couldn't even imagine. And one day, Michael... one day you will have taught me enough about the twisted delights of mankind, that I might finally unleash my creeping influence on the world. For you have shown me the most delicious poison, Michael; that of lust and corruption and decay of the soul. But meanwhile, I have time, Michael. And patience. And that is all one needs.

In the meantime, I sit. And I wait.

Soon, Michael.

Soon.

Alright, just going to start brainstorming the random name/restriction roulette--feel free to jump in with any thoughts.

As I figure it, restrictions should have uniform word types, and a 'challenge run' should have a set format--say, for example, we made genre of origin be adjectives (or some other category that isn't enough of a restriction on its own), sex acts be verbs, and body types be nouns. (All on a chart with numbers from 0 to 9, rolled on either on an actual die or a random number generator.) Depending on difficulty (or your cruel whim), you could use the same chart to make all your brothels "The Adjective Noun", "Adjective Nouns of Verbing", "The Verbing Noun", or even "Verb my Adjective Noun like a Noun" if you had multiple 'noun' restrictions (after all, we'll likely have multiple charts).

Or, in other words, your sex act is "oral" (verb "kiss"), your genre is "fighting game" (adjective "aggressive"), your body type is "stacked" (noun "mountains"), and the fourth roll for those who feel froggy is "red hair" (noun "ginger"). Depending on your difficulty, those rolls could be "The Aggressive Mountain", "Aggressive Mountains of Kissing", "The Kissing Mountains", or "Kiss my Aggressive Mountains like a Ginger", using the above examples.

Basically, your brothels are named and regulated by randomized mad lib.

The basic reason why I'm looking at a 'mad lib' structure is because it allows us to assign certain categories as dependent (adjectives need a chosen noun, adverbs need a chosen verb, and verbs are just bloody weird in a name without a noun), and makes it easier to shuffle in multiple types.

So, my thoughts: Adjectives (less restrictive, needs a noun) could include genres (fighting games, action series), media (video games, anime), and some broad origins (purchase, recruit, catacomb).

Verbs would be tied to actions, and would likely refer to either specific acts, clusters of acts (foreplay only, 2p intercourse only, mean stuff only), or positions allowed to be filled (bar only, hall only, club only, etc).

Nouns would be specific character restrictions. Body type, hair color, skin tone, set-specific attributes (celeb packs, porn star packs, pokemon packs), etc. These would likely need more than 10 options, for those who don't have the character packs to support certain restrictions, so that they could shuffle to their own tastes and/or sub out options they don't have.

Not sure where challenges would go, though (IE no matron, no cleaner, all girls live in luxury, no anti-preg, half girls on customer service, etc). Thematically, verbs are the restrictions, but these aren't associated with actions. It doesn't feel like it belongs with adverbs' 'thematic restrictions', either. I'm thinking maybe descriptive-nouns, like "bedlam", "filth", "luxury", "fertility", "helpfulness", etc?

Rock Star - Only unique girls can have sexual assignments. Unique girls cannot perform any function other than sex assignments. (Sex assignments are jobs EXPECTED to have sex. For example, masseuses are not sex assignments, even though horny girls in that role will sometimes fuck customers.)
Kitchen Sink - Harems are everything all at once, and you must staff all positions from all types of harems. (Ie - you must have masseuses AND escorts AND game hostesses...)
Decimated - All costs related to harem expansion in the config files are multiplied by 10
One Size Fits All - All harems must be the same size, and fully staffed, before you can open another.
Nobody Pays for Porn - You cannot open the studio.
On The Job Training - You cannot use practice or training assignments

I generally play Decimated One Size Fits All Equal Opportunity Rock Star.

The last game I did:

WhoreDew Valley- Only operate one brothel, which can only be used as a bar or stripclub.  Your main source of income must be the farm.
