New and would like some help.
« on: April 01, 2010, 01:28:46 PM »
First off, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this.  If it's not, I apologize and ask that one of the mods move it ASAP.

Okay, so I downloaded this a few days ago and I've been downloading all sorts of packs.  I play it on a different computer, so I can't tell you everything about it off the top o my head.  Some of the packs I've been downloading have missing image files for a few girls, and it crashes the game if I do anything with them that involves anything other than the default profile image.  This is problem number one.

The second problem I have is with the Editor (The one that Solo made, version 0.66).  I can't update any girls, randoms, or items from the editor.  I can edit them in the config files, but I keep getting an error message, which I will post as soon as I can.

Finally, for the good news:  I love this program.  It's simple, I love that it's open sourced so I can go in and edit it to make it as hard or easy as I'm feeling at the moment, and I can help develop the game, because I've been learning previously to code and script in C and in XML lately, so I'm understanding all sorts of new things.

I do have a request from those of you guys who make all of these packs.  I'd like to see two things.  The first is more Western inspired girls.  I've seen lately a few Teen Titans and Kim Possible, but I'd love to see a lot more.  All of these anime girls are just over loading me.  The second is I'd love to see more items.  I know LS started it, but the game needs more and better items.  I do plan on doing such once I figure out why the editor isn't working.

Otherwise, thanks for making such a fun little sim!

What version are you using.  It should not crash if you use 1.29.4.6 version, the current version of the trunk should crash though.

Do the girls' profile pictures show up in game, or do you get a generic pic for each one?

well the overload of anime girls are understandable as the game started off as an anime game but thankfully you are free to edit other pictures and use those. with the proviso that you don't break any local laws of course. if you make packages with girls try to keep them in the same format as the other girls, that is: jpg and with the names of the various picture types so the program won't crash, capital letters and all. other than that, let your imagination be the limit.
The line between lunacy and genious is very thin.
So far i haven't been able to find it.

Anime inspired girls? Overload? Maybe I've been mistaken, but my impression has been that the majority of girls have been from video games. Video games originating from Japan, true, but that still is not the same as anime. I think that if you'd count the Fire Emblem, Dead or Alive, RPG, RPG, RPG, Touhou, characters that they'd far outweigh the actual anime stuff. Not being a video game player, I'd personally like to see ONLY anime girls, or an option to that effect, but an under no delusion that that will ever happen.

Even aside from the fact that quite a few English people who watch anime are primarily gamers, with anime as a sidedish, there is also a matter of pictures quantities. Most erotic art for anime appears shortly after airing and then some after the DVDs are released. After a few years most pictures will gradually disappear unless a series was fairly popular to start with. Ongoing series like Naruto and One Piece have a better chance because of their length, but take something like Dual Parallel Trouble or  Banner of the Stars and you'll find hardly anything. The latter two were pretty popular when they first aired, but haven't maintained that popularity, so whatever erotic art there was previously isn't available anymore.

All in all, each to their own I guess. Although I admit having difficulty understanding someone wanting porn based off something as badly drawn as the typical Western cartoon, that's still your right.

Well the great thing about WM is that you can have whoever you want in your game. No one is forcing you to use specific girls, if you want girls only from anime use girls only from anime. If there's pictures of it naked it'll work for WM.

Well, personally, I don't play console games and I don't watch much anime. Consequently, just about all the girls I've seen in the game, either I never heard of them, or else i only know them because they've been the subject of a dozen fan made h-games. I don't think that detracts from the game in any way.

I love that it's open sourced

As a long time Linux user, I'm having difficulty reconciling this statement with your chosen user name  :-\

Hey guys.  Time to reply:

I've figured out the image crashing bit.  I would get default profile image, and anything else would freeze and then crash the game.  I just had to get proper image and folder names for those girls.

I'm using the latest download.  Forgot to get the error report from the editor.  It isn't bothering me much now that I've learned how to edit the .girls, .girlsx, .rgirls, and the .rgirlsx files.  fairly easy once you understand the language.  However, I've been try to write an .itemsx file to expand, but everything I write isn't coming up in the list.  I'm going to play around with it some more to see if I can get it to work.

As for the overload line, it was more of an offhanded remark.  A hundred and thirty plus girls, all from video games and anime?  It would be hard to not want a little variety, at least for me.  Also, it has occurred to me just recently, I'm suprised that no one has submitted a pack for a live model.

Also, Doc, SCO is an acronym for something totally non-computer related, although knowing what little I do about Linux (having been a lifelong PC user) I can understand your problems.  And that was damn funny.

Try updating your .net framework, the editor requires a certain version or newer (don't know which one), so that might be causing your problems.

Nobody's done any live models because live models and Japanese anime styled artwork don't mix at all.  Western animation and art style is equally hated, not because people hate western animation, but because the styles are just too different.

If you wanted live models, you'd pretty much have to make enough characters to run the game entirely with just live models.

It just Happens that all the people asking for live models and western-style girls are too lazy to make them themselves. Also, its not that western style is different, its just that, for me, any porn made with it looks utterly disgusting. Badly proportioned pseudo-humanoids does not hot porn make. Unless you're living out your childhood fantasy of banging Lisa Simpson. In which case stay far away from me. Urk.

And anime-style pseudo-humanoids are well-proportioned?  Think again: http://shechive.com/2009/11/18/what-if-japanese-cartoons/.  Super creepy.

Hahaha. Those skeletons were actually pretty cool. Western art or Asian art, doesn't really matter. I'm tellin' you whatever you want to use for pictures you can. No one is restricted as far as who they want in their brothel, and as far as I'm concerned anyone who wants to do western art girl packs is more than welcome. I'd rather have more choices than fewer choices. They'll of course be added to the list as well.

I realized a little later in the day that live models would also be hard as hell to pack.  You'd have to do a very non-specific set, and all of them would probably have to be random girls, because finding good pictures of a model in even a small selection of the picture options would be hard.

And thanks for the info about the .net framework.  I'll check it first chance I get.
