Title: New release for my Hentai High School remake

Glad to see the community around still still lives on.  I've updated my little game to v0.2.  I won't give my blahblahblah on where the game comes from, as I imagine most of you still remember Pooolka fairly well.  I've added buildings, and a bunch of highly dirty content for those that reach the higher levels of deviance and such.  Feel free to berate me for bugs and such, ask questions, or tell me why I'm a bad person.

It's nice to hear that you're still working on this  :)

Edit: When upgrading the security for the school start, you lose 400 instead of the 200 cash

It's pretty hard to get the high deviance content in the time allotted, since only one teacher can teach a subject that affects it.

I'd like to know what you have planned for the future, if you don't mind sharing.

I berate you and call you a bad person because I wish this development had come sooner. But seriously, I'm enjoying the game and looking forward to whatever's coming.

It costs 400 to upgrade. it costs 200 per year in maintenance.


It would be helpful if you edited the description to reflect that. :)

True, it's not always easy to post correctly while drowning in homework.
Another thing that would also be helpful, is if you got to see how much the next upgrade costs as well (level 2)  ;)

I completely agree with the opacity in upgrade costs and effects, and I've already coded in much better descriptions for that when you browse the buildings.  I'll release that along with any other changes and bugs soon.

The deviance is supposed to be pretty brutal right now.  You can only really get it through a few events (luck based), distributing smut (dangerous), and that single teacher.  The next release will involve those weird orbs you saw in the original.  Basically a specialized currency to buy stuff.  They will let you buy another sex class or two, among many other things.  There will be more events to raise deviance.  But even then, it'll be a struggle.

At some point, I'll add in the 'policies' from the original.  Those pretty much will allow you to exchange one stat for another, and will give a great avenue for making lots of deviance.  For instance, you could trade your reputation for deviance on a yearly basis by instituting a mandatory porno break during lunch (not my finest idea, but it illustrates).  Or behavior for deviance by repurposing the security cameras for peepshows.  That sort.

I want the highest end dirty events JUST BARELY accessible right now.  They will get a bit easier as things go.  For now they are the carrot to drive players further along.

Well, it's really not THAT hard once you realize that immediately setting your first teacher to sexuality kinda breaks the game in terms of early-game problems.


ie, by year 4, I'm stabilized, instead of by year 10. Ethics also works, but then you don't get that deviance bonus. In my most recent file, I have 20-ish deviance by year 8.


The random luck boosts help, admittedly. I had the "Watch them, stop them, or leave them alone when they're kissing" thing 3 times.


Deviance is going to go really far up by the end of the game, since it kinda explodes (har har) after a certain point.

Hm. Well, I didn't notice any major problems that haven't already been mentioned - the big issue would be opacity, telling people how much things cost, and another big thing would be to tell us how much money we're getting at the start of every year - suffice to say, it's a little hard to make plans when you have no idea how much money you're going to get with this year's budget. Might also help to have a handy-dandy 'this is how much your buildings, and whatever else you have at this point, costs you for this year' under the budget tab, so the players don't have to add it up manually.


Since this is an 0.2, it might be a bit crude to mention, but as completeness approaches, an ending a bit more than 'you won the game' would be appreciated, possibly optional endings depending on final stats... Anyway, that's in the future more than anything else, just pointing it out to make sure it's on the table.


Now onto the thing I was actually originally posting to say... this is something I've noticed in all the Hentai High School family. You, as in your character the principal, really don't get anything much. You're always creating this atmosphere of sex and deviance for random mysterious reasons, and... frankly, it looks like everyone in that school except you is getting some.


That always struck me as really wierd, and... eh, I dunno, just seems like it'd help the player's sense of investment in the game a bit if it wasn't always 'a teacher' or 'her boyfriend' who gets to... partake in the delights you are creating... but if every so often you get an opportunity for some studentsex.

There should be a little readout at the very beginning of the year regarding how much money you get, and how much you pay.  However, that is only done once you press "start year", so may be too late for certain decisions.  I think I'll add a little quick button that says 'how me how much I'm going to be working with this year', that you can hit before the year starts.  That'll matter more and more as I add more crap to blow your money on.

Endings are coming, but not too soon.  I want the 'post game points' to be in first, so you get more than just a picture and text for a given ending.

As for the principal thing, I've thought about that too.  In the original, you were offered to join in a few events from time to time when your sex stats were really high, but nothing showed you getting involved.  I'm guessing Pooolka didn't want to make any assumptions about the principal.  A little radio button specifying male or female could get somewhere, but soon you'd need at add futa, and a few other things as well.  I've waffled about doing that, which would be neat, but create a good deal of specialized content for each principal type (the female principals might not be wild about having to lug a penis around everywhere).  If it happens, it'll be quite a bit later.

I liked it, but why have it end at a certain point?

I got "game over, you win" and I didn't even have a full staff of teachers or all of my buildings upgraded yet.

I don't even know what the victory conditions are, really

The original had a nice game over screen, and cool epilogues about what happened to the girls once they graduated. There was an achievemenmty-thing that let you expand playing time as well.

I'm hoping these are planned for a subsequent release. So far, given that the game is at v0.2, it seems to going quite well. Although I would welcome a further level of complication in the gameplay; I find it just a little bit straightforward at the moment.

Hey, it's the CloxDoc!  Love the work you did on WM, and enjoy reading your thoughts over at Otherworld.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head as far as features.  I'm trying to do up most of the features pretty well when I release them, and only touch them up in subsequent releases.  Thus, you get a pretty full view of what I want to be doing with buildings in this release.  Unfortunately, that means I gotta wait on things like endings and post-game buying and those cute lil orbs in game and other schools and all that other stuff.  AND THEN I'll do some of my own custom additions.  It's a long haul.  Glad to hear the support so far though.

Saw this, and had to unlurk and register to pipe in with a few things.

First. A very nice update Hedonismbot. I really like where you're going with this. Good to see the original version getting a true remake.

Second. I'm wondering if you're averse to me (or you) posting links to this on the hentaihighschool site. As of now, there are three HHS games being developed there concurrently. Strangely enough. One of them my own. Might as well collect them all.

Third. Mind if I steal some pictures for my own version of the game?

Feel free to link.  Cypress invited me to join the site, but given my irregular schedule and psychological maladies, I'll be turning down the offer int he near term.  But feel free to link me, and I'll see if I can't drop by the message board someday.

Go nuts with the images.  I've stolen every one of Pooolka's images, and added my own.  All of them come from places like Gelbooru and Aerisdies and all the normal places.  I don't claim anything as my own, so as long as the original artist doesn't come complaining, I say grab anything you can find.  I just ask that you let me know if someone comes along and decensors or takes the watermark off anything, so I can replace my version with the good one.

basicly all you do is stop the game from ending at year 20.

thats all.


is that going to be very hard to do? it doesnt sound it, but then i know nothing of programing...


its just when i get to all the fun parts, (deviance 80% w00t.) Its end game time. also, the teacher confrence ALLWAYS picks the newest teacher, the one with the lowest skills, so by the time you have a teach worth showing off you CANT.

My statistics window pops up for a second then immediately disappears. At least, I think that is what is happening. If it is not, then I have no way to check my current status, and if that were truly the case, I would think somebody else would have complained by now...

Any ideas what's causing this?

Hedonismbot nice job on actually making something, however it seems at the moment we have very little options, since i managed to get the old bukkake onsen scene (haruhi one) and noticed there was no choices only an amusing observation.
 
and what exactly are you using to calculate the budget? even with a school that has all 90s plus (reputation included) the budget is only around 3k, and you need a 6k budget in order to be able to maintain all the level 4 stuff.

I don't have any options in the visit events yet, those are coming semi-soon.  They are planned, just haven't built the engine to handle them yet (and I want some special things in to support them and make them interesting).

Money is calculated off of population.  It's really simple right now.  5*population = income.  Population follows reputation (specifically the population change is a Gaussian deviate with a mean determined by linearly interpolating between certain fixed reputation-to-population points, with a standard deviation proportional to current population).  As your rep goes up, your population will follow, but it can only change so much, and it tends to lag behind some reputation gains.  Right now I'm wanting to tweak it a little, because cash grows so slowly at low levels of rep, then it just goes totally nuts when your population gets to a certain level.  Too nonlinear really.  Just gotta tweak a few points in a table, but it's tedious work.

I'm worried about the stat window doing that.  It's probably hiding underneath your main window.  C# isn't exactly standard in how it handles my placement code.  Some machines handle it great, some crap it up badly.  In either the next major version, or the one after that, I'm planning a completely different second GUI.  Classic mode for people who want Pooolka's layout, and a new mode that is basically a huge rip of SlaveMaker's GUI.  Both work, choose your favorite.  Won't be soon, but it would fix a lot of weird little issues that pop up on certain systems.

hmm that explains it, but i dose make sense, and i asume you use a flag to check is year = 20 to end the game right?
 
to make a cheap 'sandbox mode' i could upload a save with the year as 21, so people stop asking. (in case it isnt obvious i edit the game saves to test out more aspects of the game.)
 
but still i found it funny, 'sticky water' nice job anyway the text are generaly amusing.
 
and on another note, what do you use to check for a potental teacher stat upgrade? teachers that have very high stats tend to get them more often, and when all their stats are caped (or close to it) they get it non stop.

If someone really wants to play sandbox style, they can just change the year on their saves.  It shouldn't be too tough to figure out the format.  Just save around year 19, and change it back to year 0.

For teacher upgrade events, I roll a random number between 1 and 100.  If that number is less than loyalty, you get to choose what to improve.  If you choose loyalty, you get a +10 to all the other class checks (to see if a given teacher skill increases your stats).  If you choose, say, teaching, all the other tests go normally, and teaching gets +50.  That usually leads to +2 to a skill, and soon will end up with other, neater rewards as well.

hmm yea i figured it was tied to some stat though of course since im not looking at the code i couldnt figure out which one.
 
as for the sandbox thing, im not sure how manny people know how easy it is to modify the save, and personaly id rather not show them how, but im reasoning, that since you probably have a loop set up if x!=20 x++; puting it at 21 or higher will alow the people to play endlessly like want to with out having to open up the save file.
 
thanks for the info and good luck figuring out a formula for the population/budget.

Just updated to v0.2.2.  This fleshes out the Around School more into the mid-game level, and now we scale all money-affecting events by year.  That way, you don't get screwed as bad (or as lucky) with events early in the game.  Barring a major bug or whatnot, I will have one more release before I start work on v0.3.

Looks about right to me.  The number should be the number of buildings.  It lets me know how much further I need to read.  I could do it more robustly by just reading until I hit the end of file, but that'd have to change in the next version, and I'm planning a big redesign of the whole save system a versions from now.

like i said the save file isnt really complicated at all, you dont even need to know basic programing.
 
on a side note, im not sure if the .3 version fixed this (currently downloading) but two very minor typos, when you finish a year with bulding level 4, the gym missing e in more and the bath even is typoed eevn
 
and maybe im blind but i dont see differences. (i dont pay much attention so i might easily miss something.)

I hadn't caught them before.  I am a real stickler for typos, so I appreciate that a ton.  I'm not going to stick it in the current build (I'm not re-releasing for a typo), but I'm very glad you caught those this early.  It's awful to carry that sort of thing for five versions and never notice.  Let me know if you see any others.

I hope you would consider having images being hidden and unavailable (in the filefolder) until gotten ingame? That would add immensely to replayability and be an incentive to focus on different areas as you play again and quest for missing images.

That's in the original, and will be in v0.3.  It will make a lot of people sad, since I'll be encrypting and bundling all images, but they will automagically unlock when you see them in-game, and hell, they come from web-based collections anyway.  If people want to see pictures, search gelbooru.  If they want a game, well I can help with that ;)
