Gang Lists Editable? V.1.29.4.6

hi everyone,
this is my first post so  hope this is an ok place to put my question
 
i tried changing some of the gang names in HiredGangNames.txt
i thought that it would be ok, that the game just used whatever names were in there
but when i started a new game and tried to hire a gang, there was no gang name. i tried it several times and there were no names in the game
is it possible to change names in those .txt files and have them show in game? or are they unchangeable?

Not 100% sure but I think the dev's moved on to .xml for all the config files. In other words txt is depreciated and will probably be buggy if it is still implemented. Then again it could just be in the wrong format. 

edit: Oops, my fault, didn't realize he was talking about version 1.29.... Which he has clear as day in his title......

That's all that is needed, editing HiredGangNames.txt.

The first line of the file indicates how many names are in the file (not the number of lines; it would be the number of lines - 1). Be sure you update it to the correct number and don't leave any blank lines, and you should be fine. Oh, also, be sure not to reduce the number of gang names below 20, assuming you haven't edited the "MaxRecruitList" value in config.xml (need to be sure it doesn't run out of gang names).

If you do come up with some decent new gang names, it would be nice to share them with everyone else.
