Title: Android Phones
Post by: DocClox on December 20, 2010, 12:22:21 PM
Just out of curiosity, how many people here have Android smartphones?

I've been playing with the SDK is all. (I know, that last thing I need is another project...)

I'll be getting one for business purposes as soon as my current phone contract is up.   That said, since it'll be for business purposes I won't be putting any games on it.   (I can just imagine showing a new client my inventory or a product demo or whatnot and accidentally showing off my XXX game collection... whoops! :o )

I can understand that. Ah well, I'll stick to where the audience is, at least for now.

I have one and would definitely be interested in playing a future game you develop on it.

Possibly. What version of the OS have you got?

Firmware version 2.1...doesn't say anything other than that.   :'(

One behind me in which case. I can test against that too.

[edit]

Here: try this. Doesn't do much at the moment, just a scene setter.

There should be some combat there (it's just described) and then the main game is missing too. So strictly trying-out-the-technology at this stage.

It's been some time since I last visited, I also have android phone, HTC Legend, android 2.2 (froyo).

Just googled a bit, it seems it has C++ dev kit, I think in beginning it was Java only.

Yeah, but the C++ kit is supposed to be for optimising speed critical parts of java apps only, it seems. So they've set it up so you can't get at chunks of the O/S from inside C/C++.

There is a bit of a workaround, in so far as you can call one of the script languages they support from C++ and get at the O/S that way. The thing that puts me off trying is having to worry about whether the phone is running on a Risc chip or intel compatible or whatever, which I gather is an issue.

Ideally, I think I'd like to work in Jython or Perl. You can do that with the scripting layer for andreoid (SL4A) but then you can't compile to a apk file. JRuby comes closest to being stand-alone usable, but even then, there are Android features you can't access.

It's all a bit frustrating.

Ah, so I didn't misunderstood it :).

Although there is another way to reach the OS and hardware, if you root your phone you can get unrestricted access to it. But problem is, how many people decide to do it. I could, I found tutorials and I'm no stranger to flashing phones with custom software. But you'd have to reinstall every app and date afterwards and I'm not in the mood to do that :).

I've got a Galaxy-S and rooting is suposed to be pretty straightforward. The problem is that much of the Android interface is in jar files. So even if you root the phone, you still need to compile to java to get access.

That said, I've not tried it, but that's the impression I got from my reading on the subject.

I'm definitely going to keep on with the android project, in any case, just as a bit of a background activity. I think I'd quite like having a phone full of pet slavegirls :)

Ugh Doc. We need WM on Bada then, or this will be a discrimination of platforms.  :)
Just one more project won't hurt, amirite?  :P

ps: i wrote this just because i hate discrimination. My Samsung Wave phone is a coincidence.

:D

Tell you what - let's wait until it's working on one of them. Then we can discuss ports :)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S. I am currently coding an Android game on the same subject as WhoreMaster but a bit different. I am currently coding the game myself. I am a professional java programmer and I have already published 3 Android applications. I need help on "characters/scenarios" creation and graphics and music.

The game
You have girls and the customers enter your venue. The game goal is to make pairs. The more they are satisfied by the person you paired them with, the more you earn. The workers and the customers are celebs/politicians and they will give some clues about their tastes. Steve Jobs, Clinton and Kadaffi are waited. No real porn material are included in the first version, the game is rather a parody. Some extensions will be possible (customers, workers, furniture).  The person who helped me can propose extension and can even sell them. Theses extension can contains more explicit material.

In fact it a more like http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/11/10/marvel-brothel-x-men-sex-game/
