Title: Adding characters to 0.45 alpha

every time I attempt to add characters I get errors in code even though i just copy and paste the files in game/lib/chars or into the rchars - and if i manage to not get the error they just never appear

If you mean you try to add packs from threads like this one (http://www.pinkpetal.org/index.php?topic=3401.0), then they are not suitable for the alpha, they were changed to work with the dev version aka beta which will be released later.

Oh - are there no packs for current alpha out?

All available packs should be inside the archive with alpha. Can't be helped, alpha was released ~3 years ago and we kept working on the game all this time.
