Hey guys, I joined a few days ago and have been enjoying the game.....when it doesn't crash. I haven't added any of the girl packs or edited any of the items and it still crashes around the 3rd to 4th time I press Next Week. Once that happens, when I try to reload my last saved game, it crashes and I have to start all over. Please let me know if you need me to post one of my saved games where this happens. I've tried starting a new game when it starts crashing my saves, but I sometimes don't even get past the first week till the game crashes. Any suggestions? :'(

Post the save. Also, there should be a text file called "gamelog.txt" - post that too, it might help.
However, there are a couple questions you should answer first: what version are you using? (latest is 1.29.6, check for the thread in General Discussion forum)
Do you have the extra files that are required for the game to work properly? (they're linked from the "Download v1.29" thread)

The most common problem is that players miss one or more patches or patch in the wrong order. The easiest thing to do is download the complete, up to date, v 1.29.4.6 that I posted in the General Discussion section.
DocClox: can you sticky that thread and unsticky the old thread? That should cut down a bit on the problems related to messed up installs.

Ok, I downloaded the full updated version, but after checking everything out, I wanted to look at the editor, but it can't find the items or girls lists that are in their corresponding folders. I can see the files girls.girlsx and items.itemsx, but the editor says they aren't whoremaster files and won't read them.

You need the updated editor then. I thought I had packed it with the game, but I guess not. You can get the updated editor here (http://pinkpetal.org/index.php?topic=47.0). Just unzip the file into your whore master directory, overwriting the old one.

Thanks Zodiac! Everything's working great now. Editor's bringing up the files as readable and I have yet to have the game crash on me. You are a god! :-\

Yes, I am, but I'm a relatively minor one in the pantheon. I got stuck with being god of Hypocrisy, Exasperation, and Murphy's Law. *sigh* Why couldn't I have been god of "Way too much sex with unbelievably hot girls"?

First, hi to everyone! :)
Second, my apologizes for posting here, but considering my problem is similar to the original post, I didn't find the need to make a whole new topic...
So, here's the problem, game worked fine for quite a while, till I downloaded all the girl packs found in the "Megapack Release 5.0" topic and also the LS 3.0 item pack... After that, the game is startable and playable, till you get to loading... Which doesn't work (I'm not overly surprised if this might be my laptops fault considering how much of a ... failure it is...) basicly, it starts loading, then the game freezes, then windows pops up the "virtual memory too low" (sometimes with the added "increasing")... That's the main problem...
Other problems... When I start the game (after getting the girl packs and item pack, yes, I dl'd them all at the same time and started using them at the same time, so I'm unsure if it's just one of those packages or what not... If it is, after you check the save files, log, and the pic then I can just reapply them one at a time or something of that sort. :P That is, if you can be botherd to help me out, which I hope you do. )
The other problem is the fact that I get a bunch of ... well, blank girls, example " has been sent to your brothel." where the space presents the "name" of the girl, and she's automatically dead... And it appears quite often, both on the slave market (where, of course, I don't buy those girls) and "Walk around town." options...
And third and the least minor problem, is that some of my girls aren't loading ingame (all downloaded, none self made, so far )
PS. I'm adding 2 save files, just incase...

(I have changed the config file around a bit, that shouldn't change anything though... Hope so atleast. :P)

well, I think the problem is the laptop it self, how much memory does it have and what os are you using.

OS: Windows XP Professional.
By memory you mean RAM? If so, 384mb.

Yep, as much as I figured out, I started with the 2.5 and continued till 5.0 in the correct order...

One make sure that you only have one girl file for the megapack and two what else do you have running in the background, such as your antivirus and what not.

Yep, only one megapack.girls and no other backronud programs beside the antivirus that is ESET NOD32 4...

Stupid question... but how much disk space do you have left on your Hard Drive?
Also, what's the speed and make of your processor?

Odd, how much virtual memory do you have, To get to this left click on the start menu, second right click on my computer and select properties. Go to the advanced tab and click the settings button under preformance. Go to the advance tab and it should be near the bottom.

Right click on My Computer and go to Properties, is the quickest way to get basic system information.
Since you've got over 40GB of free space left, I'm assuming that's what you ment, you've either got a compatibility issue with all the girl and item packs and/or you 've managed to find a memory leak that is killing your system resources.
I recommend you do a fresh install of the game, don't mess with the config files, and install and test each girl/item pack you want one at a time until you can repeat the error.

I might aswell try re-adding all the custom content then. :) Because the basic game ran fine, all went smooth, no problems then...

Cool, that's about right... so that blows the memory leak issue out of the water, as long as it stays about there up until it crashes on you.
Sounds like it is indeed a compatibility issue with all the item/girl packs and whatever changes you may have made to the config file.
Definitely going to recommend a fresh install and that you add what you want one at a time and test each change before adding more.

It's as I thought then, well, luckily I still have all the necassery files for all the re-doing, which I will be doing after getting some sleep in.

I had a problem similar to this before. Or, at least I think it's similar to this, judging from your description...
Personally, I renamed all of the .girls to .girlsx files and deleted all duplicates using the character editor tool. Make sure you have a .girlsx.bak file as well, of course. Deleting those isn't a good idea at all. Oh, and I loaded every single pack into the editor tool, THEN deleted duplicates.
Do the same for random girls.
When I did it, having both types of files didn't work out well.
Make sure you don't check the gallery for 'blank' girls or it crashes.
Make sure you have pictures for every girl that you've added.
It's been a while, but it sounds similar.

Well, something definitely is screwed up in your save files - many of the girls are missing their names or other critical information which is causing the game to hang or crash on load. Post the .girls/.girlsx files you are using, there might be something corrupted in there. On another note, are you using the fully patched download, or did you apply the patches yourself?

I downloaded the full installation of 1.29.4.6 and I think the crash + the error with the picture attached was caused by overlapping of different packs using the same girls, some girls had them included in one big packages, others were seperate packages. Now that the main problems are fixed I still get the strange "blank" girls, the ones with no name, no stats and using default pictures... Though it is a minor problem and is no issue, I think this problem is fixed. ::) Which was caused by the glorious me. :-X Just need to be careful in the future, that's all. :) Thanks for trying to help me out. :)

Duplicate girls shouldn't cause crashes (at least, they used to work fine - you'd just get multiple copies of a girl in game) - if I remember, I'll test to see if that is the case. The blank girl problem is either a bug we haven't encountered before (seems unlikely), a problem in the distribution (possible, but again unlikely as no one else has reported it), or there is something corrupt in the .girls/.girlsx files. If you post the ones you use, I can take a look at them and see if that is indeed the case.

Could you give more information about that? Beside that it has some dublicate characters that might screw up with other packs. Though I haven't seen all the girls that I downloaded, which I condribute to my lack of time at the current moment.
Also, as for you zodiac44, I'm currently working on something, no idea if it might work, if it does, it might get rid of my problems (beside the default girl, which comes from a package of some sort or just from adding the girls, but it's not my current problem).

If that was directed to me, then I use the downloaded version, that's .girl ones... Atleast most of them are .girls and some of them are .girlsx... (and the WM1 girl packages uses .girls)

You can manually remove it by opening the file in notepad and going to the very last line in the file and hitting backspace then saving. You will need to start a new game but this should fix the issues you have been having.

You can manually remove it by opening the file in notepad and going to the very last line in the file and hitting backspace then saving. You will need to start a new game but this should fix the issues you have been having.
Wow, that sounds like a very obscure error. ??? Has this come up before, where and why?

Yeah, that would do it. I'll post a composite .girlsx file for all the girls in that pack to replace the multitude of .girls files shipped with it.

Maybe not obscure, but certainly easily avoidable. I mean no disrespect, but this isn't the 60s and text processing isn't exactly rocket science anymore.

Easily avoidable but one of those things which can screw things up if you are not careful. Also it has nothing to do with text processing and more how the coder, and thus the code, expects the file to be formatted.
