A large amount of people who I've seen go on about how Shinji is a whiny shit would always make comparisons to Gurren Lagann. I don't hold NGE up as some kind of masterpiece, because to me it's not; I just don't see it. I don't really care for it as much as others... but Gurren Lagann is fucking shit, and to hold that up as something to be compared to is an insult to everything else.

They both have their moments guess, not a huge fan of Gurren Lagann either though. And for the record I dont care much for whats-his-face thats the main protagonist in Lagann either. xD

Edit: A robot show I remember enjoying was Code Geass. Mainly cause the main character was such a douche and it was fun watching him fuck everything up.

I tried watching GL, and was far from impressed, for a large number of reasons.  But, it was indeed a feel-good show, so I suppose that I shouldn't have expected particularly good characters or an interesting plot.

In regards to NGE, I was disappointed by the manga adaptation.  Gantz's manga was incredible, and has arguably one of the greatest character development arcs.  Berserk's manga is legendary in quality and scope.  NGE's manga was... passable at best, mediocre and a retread of material presented in more interesting ways in the anime and EoE at worst.

And Cowboy Bebop... Surprisingly, I have yet to watch it.  It's always been on my "to watch" list, but I've never quite gotten around to it.

Code Geass was fabulous.  I loved Lelouch, hated Suzaku, and thought the world was pretty cool.  I also thought it was interesting when you consider how terrorism is perceived in RL that our protagonist is essentially the in-universe equivalent of Osama bin-Laden to the Britannians.

All I know about Code Geass is that Johnny Yong Bosch did the dubbing of the main character, and being him, he sounds exactly the same in every role he does. If I were to ever watch it, I would just mentally be making Bleach and Trigun jokes the entire time. And also Mega Man X jokes, since he voiced ZERO in one of the fighting games.

Gurren Lagann was a classic example of trying too hard to force the concept of "awesome". It was designed so people would talk about how "epic" it was, rather than to actually be good.

Don't read many mangas.. Infact that only one I read from time to time is Berserk.

No clue about the english dubs for whatever show, I prefer to watch in japanese with english subs. Always found english voice actors try to hard to sound japanese instead of making it their own thing.
It's a matter of taste though.

I concur with Lurker - I've never watched an English dub, having seen a clip of the English dubbed version of Higurashi which affirmed this policy for years to come.

Mostly I agree with this, but for those who have played Persona 4... Holy crap. Knowing the sort of characters Bosch usually voices, P4 is a trip.

(On a completely irrelevant note: Persona 4 Golden being updated with the Featherman outfits and Johnny getting a second voice role as the Protag means JYB is voicing a power ranger again. D: )
