EX makes getting over 80 in a sex stat more difficult with how I have it set up at the moment.

I haven't touched the sex actions or explore catacombs yet, but I kind of have to for the system I'm trying to implement. I'm mostly finished the with the customer system (FRUSTRATING SHIT!!!) and currently working on something I didn't plan to add in this version but looks like I'll have to for sanity's sake. EX isn't getting released for another week at least, probably.
What?  Making us wait for the update to a game we play voluntarily and that you're modding out of the goodness of your heart?  I SAY WE TAR AND FEATHER HIM!

How exactly are items going to interact with skills?

In the origanal game, most items just gave a flat bonus to a related skill (for example a sword gave +40 combat) and could not push a skill past 100. This meant that there was no point in giving your best equipment to your best girls. Has this changed?

Not to say it has to be done this way, but I often gave girls specific items based on their jobs.  I also tended to have job tiers, so that the higher on the job tier, the better living quarters she was given.

Using equipment will be the only way to get a girl to 100 in most if not all skills. I'm working on the balance with that right now.
This is the last week of bug fixes. Barring anything catastrophic, development of a "sequel" to WM EX begins next week. If there is a major bug that hasn't been addressed, say so now or you're going to have to wait quite a long time for it to be fixed.

And maybe have some items have specific influence on a job? For instance that a sword adds a random chance to a better outcome of a fight, based on it's quality. Or that a maid dress lowers the chance that a girl will refuse to do cleaning work.

Or have the actual effectiveness at a job always be calculated as a result of skill and tool. Fights could be calculated like:
Enemy attacks, he has 200 HP and deals 40 physical base damage and has no armor.
Your defending warrior girl has 100 HP, 80 combat skill, wears a light lether armor but has no weapon equipped.
Both combatants start at an initiative value of 100. Now it counts both initiatives down at equal times down by the speed attribute of the combatant. When someone reachs an initiative of 0, he may attack (the remaining speed is againd subtracted from the 100 base value, so a very fast warrior could hit an enemy several times in a round while he may hit only once).
When an attack is started, several things will be considered. Combat skill divided by 1/10 of defender armor modifier and constitution is the resulting damage. But first is the combat skill multiplied by the weapon modifier. If no weapon is present, the modifier will be 0.5 since you have to fight with your bare hands (maybe there could be a trait that makes such fighting still very effective). Other abilities like dodging and accuracy could determine if the attack hits at all. Traits like clumsy would be counterproductive to that.

Same could be done for other jobs. Even if the service skill is very high, the actualy cleanliness gain can be determined by the joy/obedience+fear at the work (so that the work is done thoroughly) and by the equipment. A broom will help a lot with cleaning but is not very useful in a fight.

I update the first post with my progress every day if I work on it. I'm working on the auto use items code right now, and it's a bit time consuming but it doesn't look too problematic or difficult (yet).

When it comes to developing anything, dates are useless. 2 more weeks? Yeah, maybe. I'm hoping for less than that. I'll /seppuku if I'm still working on this in 2 weeks because I'm already very sick of it.

I'd like to ask a question.

My laptop is pretty ghetto and can only really run the standard window size of the original WM, so I'd like to know if there will be one for that type of setting, or only an option for large screens?

800x600 will almost definitely be supported, but I haven't started on that part of this project yet.

Fate Testarossa/Fate T. Harlaown (why are there even separate packs for this girl? different age + series?)

Yes. In the first two seasons of Nanoha, she's a loli, in the third there's a ten-year timeskip so she's basically a completely different age range. If you could have her graduate from loliFate to adultFate ten game years in and swap packs or something, that'd fit with your aging system.

I will say that the Fate Testarossa pack's girlsx file is accurate! :P

Mikoto Misaka (is she really psychic or just good at magic)

Psychic in the anime sense. Not telepathic, but slings lightning around with her brain.

Thanks!

The usage in EX:

Psychic (aka Esper, to a lesser extent Newtype) typically involves precognition, mind reading, a strong spiritual presence, often telekinesis, really most of the same things we have here in the English speaking community.

Magic would be shrine maidens with those paper things that stick to anything, elemental attacks like lightning, magic circles, or just flinging magic at the drop of a hat with no precasting whatsoever.

But the basic WM doesn't have anything except Strong Magic, so it's understandable that everyone just clicks Psychic when they want the character to be a magic user.

EX is now in the quality testing phase, then UI (support for other resolutions than my 1600x1200) will be set up after that. Quality testing means I'm playtesting the game as thoroughly as I can for issues and game flow mechanics before I release it to you guys. There are a few systems I didn't say much about which need to be fine-tuned. All gameplay features are implemented, they just need to be adjusted to make the game work as intended.

There is still a major issue caused by using the latest official svn save file system. You can't add new unique girls to the game without restarting a new save. If anyone happens to be reading this and has some familiarity with the code for whoremaster, I'd like some help. The problem seems to be that it loads the unique girl and sets the unique girl into the <Loaded_Files> <Girls_Files> section of the save file but doesn't do anything past that. The unique girls won't show up in-game, nor will they be saved into the save file xml.

If that issue doesn't get resolved, it's going to conflict with converting girl files over to support EX properly. You'll still be able to use your unoptimized .girlsx files, but they won't be ideal.

Another feature of EX is that the game will by default automatically give your girls items based on the job they're doing. Every job has around 5 stats that directly relate to either the success of performing the job or the maximum number of customers a girl can service per turn. The auto-use items code will attempt to give girls items and equipment based on that. For example, if a girl is a stripper, the game will try to give the girl items which add to Stripping, Beauty, Charisma, Confidence, Constitution, and Spirit, which are the important stats for the job. It will override items that don't add to those stats. The option can be turned off in the config file for people who don't want to use it. This is nearly the same thing as what you already have in the official whoremaster (it's turned off by default), but more specialized.

You know... this is the phase where you can let everyone "playtest" it to fish out all bugs before releasing final finetuned version :) You get out more bugs this way and you'll get over the testing phase much faster.

Nah, when I started quality testing, the game was so difficult that I, the person who designed the system, lost within 3 months. I'm not even sure it was possible to actually succeed lulz.

It's important to test things myself before releasing because first impressions go a long way. If the game is broken or not fun, people won't even try to play beyond the first failure. At the moment, things are shaping up with my setup, but some of the mechanics haven't yet been tested and I can see that I still need to refine a few things. I'll most likely release EX publicly on Sunday or Monday, depending on my free time.

edit:

teaser: random traits aligned!

I wrote that before I even had Sakuya on the list of supported characters, so lol.

In EX, you will need to use Security girls because you can no longer hire gangs to guard. Security will handle potential rapists/rioters, which they already do in official, but they are also used to prevent runaway girls and generally keep order. Basically everything you would have used gang-->guarding for. But if you use a girl with too little combat strength, she will be a liability to your security as a whole whether you have other very strong girls working the job or not. She will be the weakest link!

Good luck with balancing the mod, I am sure it'll be good as long as it is more difficult than normal version... It will be month before our port is ready and I want a fresh WM mod to play in the meanwhile :)

BTW: Will girls working all jobs gain experience equally? Or will "Whore" job level up the girl quicker than anything else? Oh, and can you make purchasing bar/casino available in all brothels? It really pisses me off when you can't hire personnel for those in 3 or 4 out of 6 brothels...
