Title: Megapack REDUX EDITION
Post by: exodia91 on October 13, 2009, 09:14:39 PM
Its dead for good now.
Welcome to the new and improved megapack thread, now with 2x the nekkid pictures! Every Girl in the redux pack has had pictures added, and some replaced with better ones, and it also contains a little bonus surprise.

NOTE DELETE ANY PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE MEGAPACK round 5 or earlier, including the girls folders, if you don't some pics may not display, or weird errors are may occur. I may also have missed renaming some pngs, if you notice any let me know. I'm no longer screwing around with multiple downloads, sorry but its just a pain in the ass and much simpler to have one download. Also, due to the download being massive, I have to use megaupload now, since mediafire pimpslapped it.

THE DOWNLOADs

Redux pack Girls 1-50
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4PB2CD17 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4PB2CD17)

Yes, its 300MB

The final addon, contains the last 4 girls, you must have The main pack for it to work, overwrite the main girlsx with the one from this. Also, the main pack needs this one to work since the girlsx in it is weird, so you have to get this one if you want all the girls to work properly, heh.

The List

Finished:
Zelda (Legend of Zelda games/crappy cartoon) Mostly done using TP Zelda, had to make some exceptions. Still gonna keep an eye out for more pics to add of her though.

Midna (cursed and normal) still looking for group pics for both

Princess Peach (mario) Probably the easiest so far, plenty of pretty much everything.

Lenalee (D-gray man) couldn't find a pregnant pic, and don't expect to. Need a lesbian pic.

Urd, Skuld, & Belldandy Would like better pregnant pics for all of them. Skuld and Urd are missing a couple pics

Rena Ryuuga (Higurashi) missing a few pics
Mion Sonozaki (Higurashi) missing a few pics
Satoko Hojo (Higurashi) suprisingly complete, just need a beast pic
Rika Furude (Higurashi) current beast pic is mostly just a lol placeholder

Jill (RE) could use a couple more pics

Felicia (Darkstalkers) a few more pics would be nice
Morrigan (Darkstalkers) complete set.
Lilith (Darkstalkers) mostly complete
Q-Bee (Darkstalkers)barely got enough pics
Lei-Lei (Darkstalkers)

Samus Aran fairly easy and complete

Princess Nina (Breath of fire 2) barely got enough pics for one nina to make a complete character. Used nina from BOF2, and yes I used that as a preg pic because she COULD be pregnant under that blanket, you never know.

Yoko Ritona(Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) Very complete.

Rin Tohsaka(Fate/Stay Night) Couldn't get ahold of a beast pic.

Terra Branford (Final Fantasy 6) could use a pregnant pic
Celes Chere (Final Fantasy 6) mostly complete, maybe a better anal, and a preg

Haruhi Suzumiya would like a better pregnant pic
Yuki Nagato needs a pregnant pic

Tamaki Kousaka (To Heart 2) XXX needed I think

Yui Hirasawa (K-ON!) pregnant and XXX missing
Ritsu Tainaka (K-ON!) pregnant and XXX missing

Nakoruru (Samurai Showdown) fairly complete, except I cheated on anal, would like a better one
Rimururu (Samurai Showdown) surprisingly, pics for every category, although most only have 1

Kaguya Houraisan (Touhou) needs preg and better anal
Mokou Fujiwara (Touhou) needs beast

Hinoki Sai (Betterman) More high quality profile pics needed, and a pregnant, though I'm not expecting.

CC (Code Geass) Mostly complete, although I'd prefer a better pregnant pic.
Viletta Nu (Code Geass) beast missing
Cornelia Li Britannia (Code Geass) needs preg and beast
Euphemia Li Britannia (Code Geass) needs beast, perhaps better preg although current is fine

Hinata Hyuuga (Naruto: Shippuden) Complete
Tsunade (Naruto: Shippuden) Complete

Rydia (FF4) would like a better pregnant pic, also she has very few sex pics, but I can find tons more with a little effort, so she'll be fleshed out in the future

Bianca (DQ5) Relatively complete. I may put in a few more profile pics and some more others.

Riesz (SD3) couldn't really find any personality info, or even her age, just made up her description and stats, might change them in the future. Would like a better pregnant pic.

Asuka Soryu Langley (Evangelion) Complete, might update with more pics since theres tons of porn of her

Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy 7) mostly complete I believe needs preg?
Tifa Lockheart (Final Fantasy 7) complete, I'll probably search for better preg, same as asuka

Quistis Trepe (Final Fantasy 8 ) all need a preg or a better one, some missing anal, etc
Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy 8 )
Selphie Tilmitt (Final Fantasy 8 )

Aigis (Persona 3) barely scraped enough pics together, badly needs better ones

Amu Hinamori (Shugo Chara)

Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptors) stupidly complete

Yoruichi Shihoin(Bleach) relatively complete
Rangiku Matsumoto (Bleach) ^^
Orihime Inoue (Bleach)          ^^

Apperently those are there full name (as in you can actually find them easily if you search for them by it) but so far in the name department ( all links lead to gelbooru for easiness)

... I want the girls full name. Not a link to gelbooru. I put her full name in the list, then when I'm making the girl, I check the list, see her name, Put that exact name into the character file, and make her. I already spend like an hour or more making a girl, I do not want to have to search for her name as well. So. Just. Give. Me. Her. Full. Name. Not a link to her full name, not a link to a set of pictures with her full name in them. Not an puzzle with her full name somehow cleverly hidden inside. In the OP I ask for her full name, so give me her full name. I go to the effort of making these girls, which is no small task when there are so many of them, so the least people can do when requesting a girl, is give me her full name.

Round 5 completed, and as an extra special surprise, one girl who is not on any of the lists or was ever requested was included as an extra 11th girl. Also updated some old girls traits.

You can take these off your Hiatus/delayed/canceled list.  I've made packs for them, and can share them if requested.  I'm likely the only one who asked in the first place.
-Shampoo
-Kasumi (ranma 1/2)
-Katt

I've also made the following packs myself.  If anyone is interested in any of them, I can upload them.  I didn't really follow this thread much, and some of them overlap with the megapack.  If you want a larger picture pool, I guess I can upload those too (marked with a * if they overlap with other packs I saw).  All have at least one pregnant picture unless stated (most 2-3), though several miss a beast picture because it simply didn't exist.:
*Bianca
-Katt
*Nakoruru
-Mutsumi (Love Hina)
*Nina (Breath of Fire 2)
-Nina (Breath of Fire 4)
*Reisz
*Rydia (no pregnant pictures; couldn't find any that weren't Deviantart 'quality')
-Shinobu (Love Hina)
-Motoko (Love Hina)
-Sailor Mercury
*Sailor Mars
-Sailor Jupiter
*Princess Peach
-Yukiko (Persona 4)
-Yukari (Touhou)
*Celes
-Shampoo (Ranma)
-Flora (DQ5)
*Tifa
-Mokou (Touhou)
-Keine (Touhou)
-Dizzy (Guilty Gear)
-Mina (Samurai Spirits)
-Yuugi (Touhou)
*Ranko (Ranma)
*Lum
*Rimururu
-Suika (Touhou)
-Sango (Inu Yasha)
-Reisen (Touhou)
-Komachi (Touhou)
-Ran (Touhou)
-Eirin (Touhou)
-Naru (Love Hina)
-Mihoshi (Tenchi Muyo)
-Sasami/Tsunami (Tenchi Muyo)

Random Packs:
-Housewife (Kasumi, Ranma)
-Noble Girl (Aoi, Ai Yori Aoshi)
-Artist Girl (Relm, FF6)
-Soldier Girl (Soldier, DQ3)
-MILF (Yuyuko, Touhou)
-Wolf Girl (Horo, Spice and Wolf)
-Musician Girl (Merlin, Touhou)
-Elf Girl (Tiffania, Zero no Tsukaima)

I'd love to see more random girl packs...   even aside from your excellent selection of custom girls, the randoms should definitely be posted.
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: exodia91 on October 25, 2009, 12:54:49 AM
You are of course welcome to post them, and I will be happy to add the downloads to the main post (this was supposed to be a place to compile all the girl packs on top of being my request thread but it seems that was not meant to be), however once a girl is requested and on the list, I will make her, if only because I only use my own girls. The on hiatus girls are mostly there because they would take too much time and slow down making the other girls, I'll get to them eventually.

I was having a look through the .girls file for round 5, and unless the copy i have didn't extract properly or something, it seems you're missing entries for Aegis, Quistis, Rinoa, and Selphie

Okay, here's my random girl pack then.  They've been tested with 1.27 and should not cause any crashes.  The Wolf Girl and Elf Girl can only be acquired from catacombs/non-human daughters only.  If you want them to show up normally, feel free to edit them.  Their stat potential might seem kind of high, but remember they have to compete with 40+ custom girls these days.  They need to be good or there's no reason to use them over unique girls.

I have noticed an odd bug with the Soldier Girl though; she sometimes seems to lose happiness at an alarming rate.  I think this is a bug with some traits, and has nothing to do with the file itself.  I will mention it to Necro in the bug thread.

Yeah, I noticed the stupid .jpeg shortly after uploading it.  The MILF BDSM1 opens fine on my machine.  Maybe it got corrupted in the .zip?  I'd resend it, but this forum doesn't appear to support attachments and the DDL sites send to shut down small files fast.

I have a request how about some girls from Danny Phantom. Kim Possible, and Teen titans.  Their is an artist called DarkDP that does some very good stuff with it.  You can find his art in Deviantart, www.hentai-foundry.com, www.jabarchives.com (http://www.jabarchives.com), and wwoec

He post's regularly in the wwoec forums.

It maybe interesting if we can get some artist's to draw some custom pictures for the girls for this game.  Maybe that should last pharagraph should go in a new thread I'm not sure.

Kim Possible, Starfire, and Raven already made it into one of the girl packs, though I don't think it was the Megapack (probably the EE packs).

I just find it amusing that some people went to the trouble of creating porn for a character in a TV advertisement.  There's probably more porn pics of her than there are frames in all the adds.

Okay, so I finally got around to uploading a pack of my unique characters.  I checked the other threads and think I've taken out any of mine that duplicated other packs, but if not feel free to salvage any images you like and delete it.  I forgot to inlude the .girls file in the zip, so there's two links because this forum doesn't appear to have attachments.  I've added some nonsense to the descriptions to try and justify why said characters might be in Crossgate.  Most are normal, some are already slaves, and some are catacombs only.  Includes (see my earlier post for series names):
Dizzy
Eirin
Flora
Katt
Keine
Komachi
Louise
Lum
Mina
Mokou
Motoko
Mutsumi
Ran
Reisen
Rise
Sailor Jupiter, Mercury, and Mars
Sango
Shampoo
Shinobu
Suika
Yukari Yakumo
Yukiko
Yuugi

I'll check and see if there are any conflicts with other girl packs.  I've got all of them recompiled in one file, so it shouldn't take too long.

[Edit]

The following girls are in other packs:

Dizzy (EE pack 2)
Flora (girlpack)
Katt (girlpack)
Louise (Fire Emblem pack)
Lum (Characters 2)
Motoko (WM girls1, girlpack)
Mutsumi (girlpack)
Sailor Mars (Characters 2)
Sailor Mercury (girlpack)
Sango (EE pack 2)
Shampoo (girlpack)
Shinobu (girlpack)
Yukari Yakumo (girlpack)
Yukiko (girlpack)

I haven't checked to see if they really are the same girls or whether they are different girls with the same name, so some of them might not be duplicates.  Good job on the pack, though.

Corrections:

Louise is not a duplicate.  Do you have a last name or series for her?

IIRC, "girlpack" was originally released by you.  If so, are the pics in this release the same as the old one (so we can delete them), are they a superset (so we can copy over the old ones), or are they completely different (so we have to examine each file individually to see what should be copied over)?
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: sgb on November 08, 2009, 01:54:18 PM
Louise is from Zero no Tsukaima.  The girlpack ones are my old ones, yeah.  I've played with the .girl data since then, and added new pictures here and there, so you can overwrite them with the new pack.  The other duplicates you can do whatever you want with.   Choose whatever imageset you like better, and the .girl data you think is more appropriate.

sgb, I just noticed that you included an entry in pack1.girls for Naru, but didn't include her image set.  If you have one, could you upload the set and/or fix the original set?
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: Etyz on November 16, 2009, 02:02:09 AM
Well,i made a Katt pack which is a little more complete,by that i mean, has images for all types, all colored and none horribly drawn, though with only one anal pic,2 bdsm with the only difference between the two being that one is naked and the other sorta clothed and 2 sad katt pics for death, didn't really find more then those pics.
i could put more pregnant pics but the images aren't to my taste,if you want i could upload it to you later.
here's the link if you're interested:
http://www.mediafire.com/?tjjhzjybue0 - rar includes a custom katt.girl.
feel free to change anything if you want =),btw,i made her a normal girl instead of a catacomb girl mostly because she's a colosseum fighter.

@zodiac44: Eh, oh I forgot Naru.  I should really stop putting all my girls into one big file as it's a huge pain to cut and paste what I'm using for the actual upload.  Anyway here's Naru and a few more to make the upload worthwhile.  Just cut and paste these entires into the previous .girls file if using my other packs (deleting the duplicate Naru if you haven't already, or she'll actually show up twice):

-Naru (Love Hina)
-Henrietta (Zero no Tsukaima)
-Nina(4)* She was in my original pack on the old forums.  If you still have that, just delete this is nothing has changed
-Siesta (Zero no Tsukaima)
-Tabitha (Zero no Tsukaima)

The funny part is I don't even LIKE Zero no Tsukaima, the characters just happen to be...healthy and there's stupid amounts of material for it.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CDYO2051

@Etyz: I already did an upgraded Katt in my pack above, there's really no need for a third.

Also, I've significantly upgraded the sets for many of the girls (unique and random) girls that Necro did as some of the sets were kind of anemic.  I can upload these later if anyone's interested.

Does anyone here happen to know how made the pack with a bunch of separate .girls file

some of them are:

Tianzi
Ranko
Shirley Fenette
Shishouin Yoruichi
Sakura Haruno
Nunally Lamperouge
Kim Possible
Kasumi

if anyone knows who mades any( or all the other) single .girls files if you can provide a link to the original download it would help alot more

I don't know who made them, but I think those girls appeared in two separate packs: ModsF.rar and WM girls1.rar.  I think both of them are linked on the old forum, if it is still up and running.

Uploaded new file for WM Girls1 with fixed .girlsx file.  Attached fixed .girlsx file (replaces the individual .girls files that shipped in the original pack - you don't need this if you used the editor to combine these girls into a single file or with other files).

[edit 2]

Uploaded repack of ModsF with compiled .girlsx file.  Attached .girlsx file for those who have already downloaded the pack and need a proper .girlsx file.

Thanks alot zodiac maybe you should make a Topic just so does character packs dont get lost in time or ask exodia to add him to this one since he did say he intended it to also be like a compilation thread
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: zodiac44 on November 23, 2009, 04:03:11 AM
I'm fine with exodia moving them to the beginning of this thread.  He already has other creator's packs there, so adding more shouldn't be a problem.

To the best of my knowledge, I have every girl pack that was released, so if anyone is interested (and willing to compile a list of all the file names for packs that are already linked from this forum - I have them archived by file, not by pack name or the characters contained within), I can upload the missing ones and post links.

(just love to think of her cute rabbit ears quiver when she gets stuffed.)

I have run into a bit of a problem, due to windows explorer constantly crashing on opening certain folders, I have had to disable thumbnails for all folders.... which means I would have to sort through my massive folder of recently acquired pictures one by one in windows photo gallery to find the pics I have for the girls... this combined with my general laziness and lack of motivation, will probably ensure that any forthcoming packs will take a while.

certain folders? I recall that only happening to me when I'm missing codecs for videos or my default player doesn't support a particular format. I haven't had that happen since XP though.
Havent had any problems with images though.

I've got XML versions of my previous unique and random pack, along with some balance tweaks now that I know Charismatic and Charming are totally overpowered at the moment.  To make it worthwhile, there are few more I've made since then:

New unique girls:
Byakuren (Touhou)
Faris (Final Fantasy 5) *couldn't find a pregnant image
Lenna (Final Fantasy 5) *couldn't find a pregnant image
Manya and Minea (Dragon Quest 4, one file for both; twin pack 8) )
Su (Love Hina) *Loli Warning * (images are as tasteful as possible, but she's still 14 17)

New random girls:
Adventurer Girl (Heroine, Dragon Quest 4)
Adventurer Girl 2 (Heroine, Dragon Quest 3)
Cat Girl 2 (Chen, Touhou) *Loli Warning* (again, images are as tasteful as possible)

Just delete the extra entries if not using my other packs.

I think .png shouldn't be too hard - we already use it. It's possible that if I widen the pattern it'll just work.

Not sure about gifs. Support has been a bit patchy ever since the Unisys patent fiasco, but I expect that'll only really impact us Linux users. I can give it a shot.

It's not super important, majority of the images found are jpg as is. I've only come across a select few that were pngs and I haven't run into any bmps. However, it's not hard to convert any of these to jpgs either.
So, though it would be nice. I wouldn't put it on a high list of priorities.

You don't even have to go that far; just rename them and the game accepts them.

i dropped using any of the girls files you so kindly placed for our use simply because i got a lot of errors when using ModsF (no .girlsx or .girls list) also the WM girls1 has been deleted from the download site.
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: zodiac44 on February 02, 2010, 01:10:21 PM
Well, I can post a .girlsx file for the ModsF girls, if that's what people want.  I deleted the original file for WM girls1 and replaced it with a new file containing a fixed .girlsx file, so if you were trying to get the old file (the rar archive, instead of the 7z archive), that's why it didn't work.  If you have the old file already, you only need the updated .girlsx file, which replaces the old .girls file and is attached to the post.

While I appreciate the thought, I'm rather strict about the pics I use, I only accept ones exactly of that character. (although I might cheat and use a girls twin if I have to and they look close enough)

While I'm posting, I might as well say this: I intend to redo the megapack after 1.30's released, updating girls for the new xml format, and adding pictures and traits etc. After the overhaul is done, I'll commence with making new girls.

*hits self on head*
I really really hate that the tags are last name-> first name... pack two was Athena Asamiya and Tamaki Kousaka not asamiya athena and kousaka tamaki (but hey that's also kinda good news right? I mean I got like 30 images for tamaki. without a single duplicate if I'm correct)
*goes and corrects own thread*
also I've started on yukari takeba. I noticed she was one your list, but I think she was used for sexy girl. though I will still get some pics for her.

I really really hate that the tags are last name-> first name...

Maybe you know this already, but Japanese society gives out their family name first. Many people keep that name order in recognition of the fact that that is how the Japanese refer to themselves. I had been of the same mind myself until I started becoming royally confused working with the girls in this game. When you have a bunch of people listed with European name order, then a bunch of people listed with Japanese name order... *head starts to spin*
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: Mehzerz on February 22, 2010, 05:39:23 PM
Yukari IS in fact, sexy girl. I think it'd be better to expand her images further than to make her a unique. I suppose technically you could always make sexy girl ANYONE if you really wanted Yukari as a unique.
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: exodia91 on February 23, 2010, 04:23:18 PM
Always bugged me random girls use unique girl images. You should just find some original artwork of girls who don't come from anything, and slap those in as their profiles, and leave sex pics as defaults
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: Mehzerz on February 23, 2010, 05:12:27 PM
Fair enough comment, but that makes it very difficult to find girls that fit that bill. Especially girls with enough images that aren't from anything. Could probably get away with using ero game CGS... but that's still from something.
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: exodia91 on February 23, 2010, 08:31:27 PM
People really aren't gonna be drooling over random girl sex pics, only reason they'd do it now is if they like Kallen or something, which is why I suggested we not give random girls sex pics, just profiles, and let the faceless defaults kick in. We could really do with an artist to make some unique random girl sets for us.... if only.
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: fires_flair on February 24, 2010, 12:21:14 AM
I'd do that except I don't draw worth shit. I have to agree it would be nice to not have unique girls as randoms.
by the way what are the names (if known) for the random girls?
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: Mehzerz on February 24, 2010, 01:25:33 AM
Well, any randoms I've made I provided names for. So if you don't want her as a random or you want to add on to it you can relatively easily.

As for the ones that came with the game... there's a list somewhere on here. I think in general discussion. I need to add them to the list anyways. But most of them are DQ3 characters sex priest, bunny girl ect. (All the ones I added to I also provided names of.)
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: sgb on February 24, 2010, 09:32:09 AM
I just see the random girls as 'generic examples' of a particular character type.  Yes, the image set might be the character XYZ but for the context of this game she's just an archetype.  If they didn't have an image set nobody would want to use them, and they're needed in-game to fill a number of roles a unique character would not make sense for.  The Dragon Quest 3 characters work extremely well for this since they ARE just generic characters, but there are only so many cases of generic characters with sufficient art to use here.  There's nothing stopping people from upgrading a random pack to a unique character if they like that character, so I see nothing wrong with leaving it up to user choice here.  I'd rather see a nice looking image pack, but if you don't you can just delete all the images in the random girl packs and have them all use the default set.

It probably goes back to the fact that most ppl here don't like western style art so when picking a character that's of western origin it basically what the greater part  of the pictures are

Pretty much nailed it right there. Most of the current modders are anti-comic art for the girls... so if that's what you're into, you're more than welcome to set them up yourself. I They of course will also be added to the list.

the round 5 fix replaces the round 5 .girls, so it should overwrite it, I don't know why it would be .txt. Try mediafire again, hit the download but be sure to tick save file if a little window pops up asking.

It's been a while since I've downloaded this so it might have been fixed since then, but just in case, I noticed Riesz and Lenalee Lee start out with 0 health and die instantly when you get your hands on them. It's easily corrected with the editor, but I figured a heads up was in order, especially since my first reaction was to think something was borked with the new release.  ;)

I remember it's an old problem that has been discussed somewhere else. Something to do with an extra endline or something of the sort present in the original .girls file. It happened to me to when I downloaded them
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: LordShame on May 09, 2010, 01:15:49 PM
Yeah, that's probably the problem. I didn't even notice it when I first checked them in the editor, but their other stats are messed up too. Riesz has no Constitution stat (not even zero, just a blank space), Lenalee doesn't have an Agility, and they're both 0 years old. Something definitely got messed up in the guts of the file somehow. (That's on a fresh redownload of the megapack.girls file of the Round 5 Fix.)

Fortunately, as far as I can see from a quick look, they're the only ones affected.
Title: Re: Girl Megapack, Round 5 Released!
Post by: exodia91 on May 09, 2010, 04:13:04 PM
For some reason their stats got moved like one down or something, I'll fix them

attached the girlsx file, delete any other megapack.girl or .girlsx files and use this one
I also updated the round 5 fix to use this instead so there should be no future problems.

Also just an FYI, I would be making new girls now since 1.30 came out, but as I can't even run 1.29 anymore, I find my will to do so has died.

And no more individual packs, it just complicates things, from now on there will be one big download.

I'm also putting the FMA girls on temporary hold, as I recall correctly they don't have many H pics overall, so I'll give artists some time to make more, I'm trying to keep this going as smoothly as possible, and I detest spending hours looking for pics and finding 3 and having to put them on hold and move on.

EDIT: And Liru doesn't have any H either... Lotta girls on hold today.

EDIT2: WHAT THE CRAP. the person who requested iDOLM@STER girls neglected to give me their full names so I have to move them to the bottom...

Most  FMA H-pics, from what I have seen, are of Winrey, but half those are most likely Doujinshi covers.

Also saw the artist Sawao Do a few of one of the girls in the military (Not sure of name)..... and that's about it for fma.

Good luck ^^

I personally like Oblivion better, it's more user friendly. You don't get lost or forget where to go as easily. My biggest complaint with morrowind was I always forgot where to go. You also had to run everywhere except major towns. Talk about a hassle.

Well "getting lost" was what I considered fun in Oblivion (and conversely, fallout 3) so I guess I'd enjoy Morrowind. :D

I think you'll lke Morrowind. Better storyand a more immersive world. The travel time takes a bit of getting used to, so the game feels slower paced that Oblivion, but you get used to that soon enough.

Just look up the Morrowind Graphics Extender, and the better bodies upgrade when you start.

That said, I much prefer the Oblivion mods.

My computer can't play oblivion at a decent FPS except in dark small areas with the graphics and view distances turned all the way down. Plus I really disliked oblivion's main quest. Morrowind has a hump you have to get over with the traveling and difficulty though. The first few levels orcs with axes or full orcish armor will end you unless you're lucky or very smart about fighting them. Early axes are pretty stupidly powerful aside from chitin, those are crap. But once you get some decent HP and armor and you stop missing 70% of the time the difficulty becomes fair. I suggest modding it to hell though. You have to be able to search for places, and always ask NPC's about someplace, they'll usually give you directions. but just be careful, if they say northeast of a landmark, it can be 10 feet east of it and you spend 2 hours searching the entire northeastern part of the island.

Listen to every opinion, even if they can't express them like a calm individual. Truth is never found when listening only to one person all the time, because no one person can fully grasp the truth. Each person holds a bit of truth within them, covered by false truths. Dig out that truth, and allow it to light your path.

Quitting because of a disagreement with a person who refuses to see the truth is childish. You should both be ashamed, and you should type like ordinary individuals, not giving the main character a personality that was previously not there, especially if the personality is very specific.

Childish and shameful on adult forums. Splendid.

Someone hand me my umbrella. I need to go out for a walk.

I do listen to everyone's opinion. I'm just not obligated to do as everyone wants. And if someone swears at me in public, then I may well give that person's opinion less weight than it might otherwise deserve.

I don't think any of that is particularly childish. I don't think any of that is unreasonable.

Which is a valid viewpoint. But it's not the only viewpoint, so whose do I follow?

Is one person's objection to a plan always reason enough to discard the plan? If so then I can do nothing at all, since there's always someone to argue against any given proposal. At that point, there's nothing left to do but withdraw from development entirely so as not to upset anyone. Alternatively. I can try and move the game forward as I think best.

I tried the withdraw entirely option and it turned out that I still got mocked and abused for it. So now I'm trying the second option, and moving the game forward.

It's not as though I'm determined to make the game into something you don't like. I want to have options that appeal to all play styles. I also want to get all the dialog into text files so that if you don't like my take on the PC you can substitute your own and distribute it as a mod.

But, for some reason there's a segment of this board that has it fixed in their mind that I'm some mad, cruel monster hell-bent on destroying all that they love about the game.

I don't think that's a fair characterisation. And I don't think it accords with the changes I've made to the game thus far.

If this is the way this is going, then I AM going to reveal my opinion of what happened.

Exodia developed a Christ complex, and started "speaking for the silent masses." Frankly, anyone on the net who thinks they speak for the silent masses is blantantly deluded. When people have opinions they either state them, or they don't. If they don't perhaps they thought it was a matter of poor taste, or they were just trying to be civil.

I thought it a matter of poor taste to point out that Exodia's ego had exploded, and that all Doc did was to be level-headed and reasoned in telling Exodia that he had had enough.

And, ShiningRadiance, if any of that was directed at me, you should understand that my post was meant to END THIS, in the name of civility and fairness. And my personality remains intact, as it was, is, and shall be, until it is no more. Don't level platonics at me; I'm nihilist.

I was calling exodia childish, not you. Quitting because of a disagreement is childish.

Moving forward blindly is worse than staying still. On the internet, you will find many cowards who hide behind a screen cursing at you. Deal with it, and don't think any lesser of their ideas because of it. It is a natural response to give less weight to someone's argument when it is bathed in hate. However, just because a person is verbally inferior does not mean their ideas match the level of their words.

Now, as for your little 'take' on the main character... personally, I'd make a way to make it easily moddable beforehand. I like the silent character type, because then you can imagine all you want. If you set a personality in stone, it very, very often makes the character inferior. Think as if Link suddenly started talking with an old-age dialect. He would sound ridiculous, and there would naturally be people who would hate that, and people who would like it, but the majority of people would agree that he's better as a silent protagonist.

Exodia hates men, so he hates you. It probably runs a little deeper than   that, but if you were a woman, he'd like you no matter what you do.

There's one last thing I want to say to you here: You're making yourself a victim. That's annoying.

And thank you, I did enjoy my stroll.

You did however say we should both be ashamed. I don't believe I've done anything either shameful or childish, and I don't think I'm playing the victim card in saying so.

Moving forward blindly is worse than staying still. On the internet, you will find many cowards who hide behind a screen cursing at you. I agree with the sentiment, but disagree that I'm moving forward blindly.

There have been quite a number of things that I thought would make for a better game that I've set aside because of exodia's opposition to them. I didn't want to alienate anyone with exodia's energy and enthusiasm, and a few concessions seemed a small price to pay. Admittedly I changed my mind on those points partly out of anger, but I still think they are good decisions.

Now, as for your little 'take' on the main character... personally, I'd make a way to make it easily moddable beforehand. I like the silent character type, because then you can imagine all you want.

Yes, and I've got a degree of sympathy for that viewpoint. But it also makes it harder to spin any sort of narrative, or to offer up background details. And the character has never been silent. He speaks, but his dialog is bland and underdeveloped. You can certainly make a case for leaving it that way, but there's a good one for fleshing out his dialogue as well.

If you set a personality in stone, it very, very often makes the  character inferior. Think as if Link suddenly started talking with an  old-age dialect. He would sound ridiculous,

I wrote one speculative piece where a non player character had an accent. Exodia distorted that to suggest that I wanted to make the PC talk like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. I'm a little disappointed to find you propagating the notion.

the  majority of people would agree that he's better as a silent protagonist.

Exodia invoked the silent majority on several occasions, but generally I don't think he spoke for anyone other than exodia. So I'm a little wary of accepting claims that the majority disagree with me right now.

Anyway, as I said elsewhere, I've no wish to either bash exodia in his absence or rehash arguments I've already made, and this exchange is in danger of doing both. The plan is to put any descriptive text (from the PC's POV or otherwise) into lua events.  Lua is still top of my worklist, so I'm not expecting to add any new passages before that gets done.

As for text already in the game, The only PC-POV text I've added so far are the little musings when the PC takes a walk.  You'll have to live with them for the time being, although I'd have thought they were fairly harmless.  There's also a bit of internal dialogue in the Chun-Li encounter  (which I don't think is particularly well written for what it's worth) but that's already in a .lua file which you can edit to your heart's content. You'll probably improve it no end.

Now, since we don't seem to disagree on anything fundamental, I'd like to let this discussion lapse. Failing that perhaps we could move it out of exodia's modding thread and into general discussion.

This I somewhat agree on as it seems that games with a silent protaginist sell more than games with a protaginist that isn't silent one of the few games I know of that sells well with a nonsilent protaginist is the Megaman series and Metal Gear Solid series.  Link would just not seem as cool if he had anything to say but his grunts and yells.  If ShiningRadiance is basing this off of game sales he could be saying it as he sees it not as speaking for a majority

Lists of lists because I'm tired and bored.

list of game series that sold well with non silent protagonists.
Games who's story lines are beloved yet there protagonists are silent.
Games where the developers admitted that their protagonists didn't speak because of budget constraints and where thankful for fans that harp on about imagination and choice.
Reasons why Link Should never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever fucking speak a word ever.
Games you wish the protagonist would just shut the hell up.
Games who's popularity nose dived after the protagonists where no longer silent.
Characters that came off just as menacing to me as the shit they where fighting just because they didn't say a word.
Games  where I wished the Protagonist was silent because everything he says is freakin stupid.
Meme's we wouldn't have if all protagonists where silent.
Games I'm currently playing who's storylines suck because the dev's listen to people go on about removing cut scenes and making protagonists silent.
Games where the protagonists are silent, but still whine like a bitch in my ear when they get hurt (I wear headphones when I play games.)
Games from the above where this is completely and utterly annoying. And every stray bullet pisses me off.
Reasons why developers make silent protagonists in their game.

So you can imagine you are that character. It's cheaper to do, and nobody calls foul on it.
Sadly i think this is another huge reason why there are more silent protagonists as well as most seem to sell better silent.
also the final fantasy series only after FF 7 where there speaking protagonists the ones who spoke were the other party members not the main character

One of the best line dialog option I found in a game was in TES IV, Dark Brotherhood storyline. The dialog basics was repeatedly selecting the "[stay silent]" line. That seemed to freak people out (except Lucien, who seemed to enjoy it)

'Silent protagonist' looks the same as the 'man without name' used in books and films (Clint Eastwood characters in Sergio Leone's western come to my mind). So making the player look mysterious and cool could be a point. On the other hand, the budget thing does not really matter as WM don't use voice actors (yet...).

Anyway, there seems to be some kind of contradiction in throwing a mysterious silent main character (not that mysterious, we get his background during the game's 'intro') into the city of Crossgate, then go for a walk around town, find a potential girl and choose the line "How are you?" Cool and mysterious -> familiar as neighbour.

So, if WM had to have a silent protagonist, I would go for the whole thing. I mean, first: protagonist could be a man, a woman, a tentacle monster or a talking dog. Second, not only he / she / it is silent, but also has no name. Third, furthermore, we don't get any background about protagonist -instead, we got pieces of background (feasible for any character type, name, gender, etc.) wich are revealed through game advance and are used to "nail" the main plot. I used that setup several times while DM in tabletop rpg (paired with the 'partial loss of memory' ol' trick, several flashbacks / flashforwards, and lots of misinformation to freak the PCs out) and players enjoyed it a lot.

I submit that games with non Silent protagonists sell just as well as Silent protagonist games. So it's an artistic decision coupled with a historically known way to save money. It still works, nobody complains, so companies still do it. And whether you think games are better with silent or non silent MC's is really personal taste. For me I don't care. (If you noticed, my lists both defended and attacked the position) For me Sometimes it works (Persona, Half Life) Sometimes it doesn't work (Borderlands, Bioshock) And sometimes I prefer them talking (Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid)

Also only 4 of the 13 Main final Fantasies had Silent MC's. In JP naming conventions those where 1, 3, 5 and 11. With all the rebooting and rerebooting that was done by SE for the ds though,I think that number was dropped down to 2 or 1. (Not sure if they rerebooted 5 for the ds. probably not.) 11 just felt like I was some mute mook watching characters more awesome than mine doing things to save the world. Your MC was more of a silent audience in that game and in no way a protagonist so it probably doesn't count.  (After all, you can't leave the fate of the world in the hands of a person that constantly gets there ass kicked by rabbits. )

One of the best line dialog option I found in a game was in TES IV, Dark   Brotherhood storyline. The dialog basics was repeatedly selecting the   "[stay silent]" line. That seemed to freak people out (except Lucien,   who seemed to enjoy it)

And that's a perfect example of when it works. (I gave an example above where it doesn't.) Also, I found the Dark Brotherhood storyline 5 times better than (and the other guild storylines twice as good as) ES4's Main quest line. And that's the problem with silent protagonists. Because you are focusing all the players thoughts into his character, they jolly well better be the ones to summon the ultimate dragon god to defeat the giant demon god in the city. Not the Emo mook turned Faux William Wallace you have been dragging around the whole game.

I know it's not a game, but...

Twilight has a nonsilent protagonist. <_< >_> Just sayin', just cause something sells well doesn't necessarily mean it's good. It just means that they're popular. Popularity requires some degree of 'good', but is highly defined by other factors as well.

The point is to make characters that people like. As I kinda pointed out with Dr. Who-- Clox in pm, or maybe here? I can't remember... silent protagonists usually prevent a bad character from popping out. But you CAN have better characters. As far as I can see, it's better to have a 0-dimensional character than a 2-dimensional character, because then the 0-dimensional character won't be called a 2-dimensional character. But hey. Some people like Jared from Fire Emblem RD better than they like Minato Arisato... oh wait. No they don't. However, some people like Snake more than they like Souji Seta. A lot of people, probably.

Again. Good character/Good Silent Character > Silent Character > Bad Character, and it's a bit hard to capture awesome that most people will like. I'm just repeating myself...

Well, at this point it seems WM is still a game for a minority... so I   think we don't have to bother about popularity (yet).

I'm not parting with silent or nonsilent. What I meant in the last post   is that either way it could make a good game, given it's done properly.   If you go silent, make it cool. (see Lorde list for more details on that   subject  ;) ) And if you want   to build a believeable MC, give him a background, some dialog lines wich   can match or shape his personality and add sidequests that can further   develop character. The later one is the way it looks WM is going, and   maybe some complaints about dialogs added and such could be blamed to   the fact that the main character game's mechanics are still in   development. I bet people that are not yet convinced about a nonsilent   character would not think the same way if they were given the final   version instead of this beta (let us don't forget betas are for develop /   testing purpose)

Having said that (and to add even more confusion to my nonsilent vs.   silent positioning), I have to admit I like the no-name protagonist as a   figure of speech / literary device (sorry, din't find any suitable   translation).

This is a bad example. Twilight would still suck even if it was a string of silent movies.

I'm not parting with silent or nonsilent. What I meant in the last post   is that either way it could make a good

Which seems to be the general consensus now.

To elaborate:
Silent can be good, non silent can be good. But both need to have strong source material in order to be good.

You can screw up a silent character just as easily as a non silent one if your source material sucks.

Also, why are we even arguing this for Whoremaster? The game is still in development (People seem to forget we are in beta. Shows how good the devs really are that we where given something actually playable in alpha.) When it's 2 decades old and it's set a certain way in the minds of millions, then we can argue with them about not changing anything.

Beat me to it. I was just about to say, where'd this whole thing come from? I hadn't seen anything to suggest the players personality.

In any event if we are going to have this discussion again... (and i'm not sure why it's here of all places)
As far as modding goes, silent is just easier for people to come in and make their own events. With a particular personality, the players personality can and most likely will become construed and distorted. Other than that I don't see why anyone would care one way or the other.

I don't particularly want to get TOO involved with this project. The name itself can ruin me. But you are correct, I should help out, since it's a beta, and I downloaded it for testing purposes. I treat it as a contract, that I should help to some extent in exchange for the masturbation material and management fun. That's mainly why I made that thread over yonder. (I've never used that word before... I want to burn it)

Okay? <3

This is why I think a lot of people like the silent hero as they can put themselves into that persons shoes without mixing the personalities and making a mess. For some games it it hard not to put yourself into the MC's shoes. But lets try to get back on track now as we have talked this discussion to death.

I uploaded my own version of Yoko here (http://pinkpetal.org/index.php?topic=401.0) for just this reason awhile back.

I think there is something wrong with the link to the redux pack.  I've tried to download it and it started fine, but it froze about 16MB into it.  I retried downloading it again and the same thing happens.  Can anyone help?

Never mind, I got it to work.  Just kept trying to download, and every time it downloaded a little more until it completed.  Trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results may be one of the definitions of insanity, but that don't mean it doesn't work!
